I feel like we are seeing the best side of this Co

I feel like we are seeing the best side of this Covid South African story. What I mean by that is people seem so surprised when we tell them that there are large amounts of incredibly brave South Africans out there that are fuelling our economy by opening up new restaurants, are upgrading their spas and salons and are investing heavily in magnificent bars and gyms. These are a few pics from @velocity_gym_hout_bay, set on the beach in this beautiful part of Cape Town. These clever owners used the lockdown period to uplift their space into something that is now so inviting, they are surely way ahead of their competition. I spent 18 months at Michealis (UCT's art departme

I spent 18 months at Michealis (UCT's art department) after I left school and while it was enough time to realize I was less artist and more business, it did afford me the opportunity to gain exposure to a number of different art techniques, one of which was print-making. I was in awe of those in my class that took to this incredibly technical and difficult art form and to this day have so much respect for art done using lino cuts or etchings. This baby of ours employs this gorgeous technique and is called THE WOODCUTTER. Here in South Africa you would assume we have seen a massive slow down in the demand for restaurant wallpapers. You would be wrong. We are seeing the purchase of the most incredible wallpapers to adorn coffee shops and delis and bars and restaurants. South Africans have always been resilient. We are used to setbacks. My favorite part of this "job" is identical to the part I loved when I was a retail buyer - sourcing. Finding old images that have been relegated to the coffins of history, plucking out elements from botanical books that have gathered dust for a century and using the sketches inside to recreate something new and relevant and then stumbling across images of one of my favorite clients' (@lella_kon) un-fired porcelain creations and begging her to take a high res image so I can turn it into wallpaper...
